We suggest that CEOs' characteristics influence their firm's ability to utilize knowledge acquired through acquisitions. Our results demonstrate that technology-figurehead and self-important CEOs undermine citation of acquired technology. This is exacerbated by technology similarity and R&D team tenure, key aspects of the Not-Invented-Here (NIH) syndrome often experienced by R&D teams.
